Flashback Reef columnist, "Toots"
Toots started surfing over 35 years ago, it was after watching old Gidget movies that she decided to start surfing. Now turning 50, Toots lives and surfs in Tassie on the beach. Her column, Flashback Reef, is about her own experiences to do with surfing in the 1970’s – the good, the bad and the ugly. Her first board was a Hot Buttered canary yellow 7ft 6 which is now nostalgically displayed on her wall and her favourite break is The Wall (she can’t reveal more for fear of death). An art teacher who loves working with animals, Toots also paints the sea, nudes and surfing images and also beach-combs for rubbish to make stuff. Also an Australian surfing memorabilia collector, Toots expresses her concern about the environment through writing. And her most memorable surfing experience? Nude surfing.
